Envision your future – create your vision board

When I wrote “what am I losing, what am I taking away?”, it was pretty cathartic for me…and yet I knew that I was missing something. I thought that I was missing something that I would be losing. But when the comments started rolling in, I knew instantly that what was missing were the good-byes that I need to say and hear in order to cut the ties. Closure is really important for me (and though you may not realise it, it is for most human beings). I like to have things tied up in a neat bow, so that I can move on.

I realised something else too…the reason that I had been struggling to create the vision board* that my career guide was imploring me to create was that I had not yet let go of the past, so could not see clearly into the future. So your good wishes are really helping me to let go.

Your endorsements are also helping me to expand into the fullness of who I am, and the value I bring. That is going to help me enormously when I start conversations with other companies, knowing that I have made a mark here, and that I am leaving a legacy. So thank you from the bottom of my heart.

*If you want to create a vision board, here are the instructions, from Position Ignition, a company that is providing me with career guidance (and I highly recommend them!). It’s lots of fun, and the ones I have created in the past have all come true – it gives you such great focus on what matters most to you.

Your aim, (with your partner in life, if you have one), is to look forwards to a world that you want to build and inhabit. The most important thing is to pick a moment in the future. This can be a key date like a birthday (milestone dates like one’s 50th or 65th are most usual). Sometimes it is easier to fix on a period like 5 or 15 years in the future. Whatever you choose, being clear about the date is fundamental.

The next thing is to build a picture of the world that you want to be living in at that date. Use pictures that you can obtain from magazines and the internet.

If you choose to use pictures/images of people, please use them of people of the requisite age (not their current age).

It is not an art competition. No one is going to judge you on the quality of the vision board.

Take your time in doing it. The process can be quite cathartic as it can create new conversations between couples as they discuss and plan out their futures.
