Reclaiming my energy

When I started working with my career guide, he made a comment that has stuck with me these past weeks and has guided the way I focus my time. He said, “Clare, you have two priorities now, the first is setting in motion a process to improve your work situation…the second is to refresh, relax, and refuel your energy”. So simple, yet very insightful.

So I’ve made it a point these last few weeks to get that balance right, and recharging my batteries has really helped with my focus on my job search and improved my confidence levels.

What does that look like in practice for me? For a start, it was revisiting some of my favourite books, that inspire me – The Art of Possibility, Daring Greatly, Transitions, Time to Think amongst others.

I have also been working with a nutritionist to sort out some health issues. And I’ve been to see a Shiatsu practitioner – that was incredibly moving, in more ways than one. I’ve taken time to meditate more; I’ve kept to my exercise routine, and added yoga back into it. I’ve had a day at a health spa. I’ve kayaked down the Beaulieu river in the evening sun too. I’ve had coffee with friends, and am making new friends as I continue to have conversations about my situation. (An introvert who is proving to be great at networking – now that’s another story, but my pride in myself at being able to do it is a real energy giver). Shopping for interview suits with my friend was pretty enjoyable too!

So what do you need to do to refresh, refuel and relax, such that your productive time is even more productive?
