Today’s post is from Jane Sandwith, 3d Coaching:
Like us, the people we work with are human beings who respond at a very basic emotional level to what is going on around them. Their physiological responses are instinctive, they ‘can’t help’ feeling angry, upset, euphoric, frustrated. They find these responses difficult to deal with because they don’t have control over them. We can help by acknowledging what we see, hear and sense – not just the words that are being used. By doing this we bring into the open things those others may not have found a way to talk about and understand before, and offer the opportunity to develop new options for change. And when we get it wrong, they will tell us and we can move on.
This involves Coaching Presence, Active Listening and Direct Communication, numbers 4, 5 and 7 of the ICF Core Competencies http://www.coachfederation.org/icfcredentials/core-competencies/
