The plot thickens

I started talking yesterday about my epic story and what the single climactic scene might be.  I’ve been mulling over that a little more, and now I’m wondering whether I want to be more like Mary Poppins than a Rock Star.  In that Mary Poppins helped her charges to learn and grow and then left them to it once they were independent.  That seems more like my style as a coach, where I aim to do myself out of a job in the long-run.

There’s also something about recognizing the power of the community to solve its own problems.  I was chatting to Jonathan Fields yesterday, a social media whizz and entrepreneur, about his philosophy on building digital tribes and helping those tribes to become independent.  Maybe we’re getting closer to what my epic story might contain.

But those are all parts of the plot – the HOW of the story.  What about the happy ending?  I’ll know there’s been a happy ending when supervisors at “Future Company” invest time developing our people every day.  When they do it because it’s the right thing to do, not because they are rewarded for it.  When they do it because they see the benefits of increased engagement and performance.  How hard can that be??????  Hmmm, now let’s get to work to help it to happen.
