Big Brother is Watching

Since I found out that Don (big boss) reads my posts, I have this little voice that keeps saying “be careful what you write”.  “Protect your reputation”.  And I have to shout at myself…STOP, STOP, STOP.

I feel very supported by Don, so this isn’t about him.  It’s about me, and that voice that tells me not to rock the boat.  Not to challenge the status quo.

The whole point of a blog is to say what you think, to unravel your best thinking, and to prompt insights from others.    And the whole point of an innovation team, of which I am a part, is to do things that are new and unique – that challenge the status quo. And frankly, our company tagline is Innovation Delivered – challenging the status quo out in the world.  So that little voice needs to SHUT UP.

Ok, so I still need to be professional, and I can’t be slanderous (as if I would!), but honesty and humanity are what move us forward.

Honesty and humanity are what pay off.  I think that applies to conversations with our bosses too.

What’s the one conversation you need to have with your boss that you’ve been avoiding?
