See the Wood for the Trees Retreat Day

Clare Norman

The issue

Diana [not her real name] was feeling lost and spinning her wheels.  She felt undervalued at work, and pushed around by a boss who was taking her skills for granted.

Her daughters were growing into independent young women and she felt the loss of no longer needing to take care of them so much.

That said, she also realised that she had been taking care of everyone else’s needs (parents, daughters, friends, work) and neglecting her own.  She didn’t really know what her needs were.

What we did

A mixture of creative exercises that tapped into her multiple intelligences to:

  • identify her needs
  • work out the life that she wanted to live and the legacy she wanted to leave
  • build her confidence in her unique set of strengths
  • articulate quick wins and longer-term goals.

The outcome

She had the confidence to immediately apply for and get a new and much better fitting role, with a pay increase that honoured her experience.  More flexible hours, allowing her to get a new puppy, which she realised on retreat that she had been longing for.

She booked a venue to host her close friends, rather than waiting for a big occasion.

In fact, she pulled forward many of the longer-term goals, to make them a reality for her in the here and now, with a new impetus to seize the day.
